Bringing Illustrations To Life

Since I started mucking around with After Effects in an attempt at 2D animation, I thought it might be nice to animate some of my illustrations so that they come to life online.

So far I have mastered the art of “rotating things a wee bit” as can be seen in this little GIF (which is part of a series I imaginatively titled ‘Little Birds’):

I also revisited a simple illustration I did a while ago called ‘Sweet Love’ and while I like the result, I think I need to stop drawing items of food… I end up hungry then covered in crumbs.

I have found working with After Effects great fun – it’s super easy to just look at a piece of work in Illustrator or Photoshop, decide which parts of your work you want to animate, shove them on separate layers and then open the file in After Effects and start ‘animating’. It’s not Toy Story… but I like it.
